As famous for its wealth of archeological treasures as it is for its year-round sun and lively beach resorts, Cyprus’ small size means it’s possible to cram a variety of attractions into a short trip. To get you started, here are some ideas for how to spend 3 days in Cyprus.

Day 1: Wine and History in Paphos

Historic Paphos is teeming with historic sites and there’s plenty to see and do on a day trip. Pay a visit to the Rock of Aphrodite, the birthplace of the mythical Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty, where legend dictates that you’ll earn eternal beauty and fertility by swimming around the offshore landmass.

Next, stop off at the UNESCO-listed Tombs of the Kings, a series of dramatic excavated tombs dating back to the 3rd century BC, before rounding off the day with a spot of wine tasting in the nearby wine villages, where you can learn about the island’s long history of winemaking.

Day 2: Hit the Beach in Limassol

As one of Cyprus’ biggest and most popular seaside resorts, Limassol has a range of beaches to choose from, but be sure to check out the sights before you hit the sand. Take a wander around the picturesque Old Town, explore the ancient Greek and Roman ruins at the Kourion archeological site, and take in the views from the 13th century Kolossi Castle. Save some energy for after sunset too – Limassol is the island’s party capital and there’s an abundance of lively bars and waterfront nightclubs to choose from.

Day 3: Escape to the Troodos Mountains

The cooler climes and pine-clad hills of the Troodos Mountains offer the perfect backdrop for a hiking or mountain biking excursion, with the highest peak, Mount Olympus, reaching 1,950 meters, but equally enjoyable is a day tour of the many traditional mountain villages.

Explore the UNESCO-listed Painted Churches of Troodos; visit the mountaintop Monastery of Kykkos; stop for lunch in the charming Old Town of Kakopetria; or stroll through the vineyards and cherry orchards in villages like Platres, Omodos, or Pedhoulas.
